Wire rope slings are a versatile piece of lifting gear. They come in multiple configurations and can be used in numerous applications. They come in single leg, two leg, three leg and four leg configurations. They can be fitted with various lifting components including hooks, rings, shackles, plate clamps, web slings and round slings.

Wire rope slings are built with a safety factor of 5:1. Meaning a wire sling, if used correctly, will not break until a load five times greater than the safe working load (S.W.L) is exerted on the sling.
When using a wire rope sling, it is important that the sling is in good working order and fit for purpose. This criteria for safe and correct use is laid out in the European Standard EN 12385-1:2002 + A1:2008 and also referenced in S.I 299 2007 General Applications.
A 6 month thorough inspection by a deemed compentent body is mandatory for all wire rope slings. Subsequent to this it is extremely important that the user checks that a sling and it's components are in good working order and fit for purpose prior to a lift.
