Web slings are an extremely versatile lifting solution. They are used in place of bulky chains or wire ropes. They can be used in three configurations, vertical lift, choker lift and basket lift. Each configuration has a diifferent capacity or safe working load (S.W.L)
Web slings are manufactured with a 7:1 safety factor, meaning, a sling will not fail, if used correctly, until a force of 7 times the S.W.L is exerted on the web sling. As a result they are an extremely effective way of lifting heavy objects.
When using web slings for overhead lifting, safety is of paramount importance. Web Slings must meet certain criteria in order to be deemed suitable for purpose. This criteria for correct use is laid out in the European Standard EN 1492-1-200.
6 monthly thorough inspection by a deemed competent body is mandatory for web slings. However it is important that the user visually inspects the sling before carrying out a lift to ensure that material is in a suitable condition and fit for puropse.
